Recently I met an old altec system that was still kicking in a local theatre. It consisted of a pair of A7s and a pair of 128b amps fed by a 1567, into which they ran a feed from their digital movie projector and the outputs of a mackie mixer for live events.Aparantly they just had all the components overhauled and plan to keep them in service indefinitly. What got me about the setup were the 128b amps. Im familiar with the 159x solid state stuff and the 156x tube stuff but ive never heard of 128b amps. What were they designed for, and how are they different from the 1568 and 1569?

Yeah there is one listing for a pair of 128B's and IMHO with a ridiculous price tag. Not worth $2000 each.Again IMHO.They are however very nice amps and not to common.So it really comes down to who doesn't mind paying those prices...

The theatres system does sound very nice, but yeah, those prices are nuts. I dont know who would spend that much on PA amps, surely there are better options for hifi.
Agreed ! I personally like McIntosh MC275's or the mono blocks, MC-30,60's are nice sounding too with regard to tube amps in that price range.I've been trying to get the small Altec tube amp 353A.To no avail.But price range for those are around $500-$1000 depending on condition and who you purchase them from of course...
